WOODBURY — A 35-year-old Monroe Township man pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated sexual assault, acknowledging he had sexual relations with a child under 13 several times between 2002 and 2009.

As a result of the guilty plea, Senior Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Dianna Reed-Rolando will recommend that Raymond J. Watson be sentenced to 10 years in state prison, and have to serve 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

Watson will also be subject to restrictions and reporting requirements of Megan’s Law for sex offenders, Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker explained to the defendant during his plea hearing. Once released from incarceration, he also will be under parole supervision for at least 15 years.

Before sentencing, Watson will be evaluated by the state’s Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a facility for sex offenders in Avenel. A finding that he is a repetitive and compulsive offender could result in his placement in the Avenel center for the duration of his sentence or longer.

Watson remains in jail in default of $150,000 bail.  He was arrested and jailed Jan. 10, 2014 after the victim made a disclosure to a therapist.

While entering his plea, Watson told Becker he has some comprehension problems resulting from a childhood fever, but his lawyer said he had been examined and was found to be mentally competent.

Charges are still pending against a co-defendant, Darryl J. Senior, 48, of Williamstown,  charged with sexually assaulting the same child between 2010 and 2013.  Senior was arrested on the same date as Watson and has remained in jail in default of $150,000 bail.
