FRANKLIN TWP. — A five-vehicle crash caused one fatality shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday at Harding Highway/Route 40 and Porchtown Road.

Police arrived at 10:58 a.m. to find the driver of a silver Honda pickup truck unconscious. Police and medics performed CPR and transported the man to Elmer Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family, police said.

A commercial stake-body truck traveling east on Route 40 rear-ended the Honda pickup truck, pushing it into a Toyota Prius, a Volkswagen Jetta and a BMW, all stopped at the red light, said police.

The driver of the stake-body truck and the Prius driver were transported to Elmer Hospital for their unspecified injuries, police said.

Route 40 was closed for about five hours as police investigated the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Franklin Township EMS, Franklinville Fire Department, NJSP Incident Management Unit, NJSP Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, Gloucester County EMS, Inspira Paramedics and NJ Department of Transportation.

Officer Anthony Rojas is investigating the crash. Complaints are pending.
