WOODBURY — Local volunteers will be participating in Make A Difference Day this Saturday, Oct. 25, in community service projects.

This year, volunteers will do some landscaping along South Broad Street by installing landscaping bricks along tree beds downtown and sprucing up the park at the site of the new police station.

MANTUA TWP. — Beginning Monday, Oct. 20, Harrison Road between Route 45 and  Berkley Road will be closed to through traffic for a construction project, which will include road improvements and the addition of a traffic light where Harrison intersects with Berkley. The road is expected to be closed until Oct. 24.

Traffic will be detoured down Berkley Road.

WOODBURY — Undersheriff Andre Bay, Freeholder Dan Christy, Sheriff’s Officer Chad Bittle, Sheriff Carmel Morina, Sheriff’s Officer Thomas Accoglio, Freeholder Heather Simmons and Mark and Marky Zietz join Sheriff’s K9 Delta at the Gloucester County Board of Freeholders Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

GLASSBORO — Two men who yelled obscenities at a police officer while he was issuing a summons, then knocked over a trash can were arrested early Friday.

Ptl. Rick Moan, on bike patrol, was issuing a summons for an open container of alcohol in the area of 30 Carpenter St. at 12:43 a.m. Friday, when  two men started yelling obscenities at him, police said. The two men knocked a trash can into the street, but when Moan approached them, they fled on foot into a wooded area, said police.

Police caught Brian Bollendorf, 20, of Sewell, was caught several blocks away on North Delsea Drive, police said. He was taken to police headquarters, where he later provided the name of the second man, Harry Mecouch, 20, of Sewell, Bollendorf said Mecouch was at a residence on Franklin Road, police said.

HARRISON TWP. — A 30-year-old Washington Township man was arrested Thursday, Oct. 16, and charged with breaking into and setting fire to a vacant house in the 600 block of Mullica Hill Road earlier that day.

Michael T. Keating, a furloughed employee of the Internal Revenue Service, was arrested at his home on Bridge Drive at about 9 p.m., authorities said.

CAMDEN — A Franklinville man was arrested Thursday, Oct. 16 by federal agents of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for allegedly mailing fraudulent invoices got non-existent workbooks to more than 70,000 schools in the United States.

Robert S. Armstrong, 44, was charged with one count of mail fraud, authorities said.

WOODBURY — A Hi-Nella man who pleaded guilty to having unwanted sexual contact with a nuclear plant co-worker was sentenced Friday, Oct. 17, to avoid contact with the victim when he picks up his wife, who still works with the victim at the Salem I nuclear facility.

In court, the victim read an impact statement,  saying her trust “had been replaced with fear, suspicion, anger, shame and utter embarrassment,” according to authorities.

The incident occurred on Interstate 295 in Logan Township as she drove Michael J. Ford, 56, home from work on  Oct. 25, 2013, the women said. Her husband reported Ford’s actions to the New Jersey State Police.

EAST GREENWICH TWP.  — A Willingboro man who at one time worked installing electric wiring in Clarksboro homes, was arrested in connection with the theft of major appliances from an empty house.
A Clarksboro resident told police that sometime overnight Sept. 30, someone had broken into a new home and stolen refrigerator, dishwasher, range, washer and dryer valued at $5,000. The theft also caused thousands of dollars of damage to the floors, walls and doorways in the house, police said.
