HARRISON TWP. — A New York State man pulled over for speeding Friday was jailed after police allegedly found five pounds of marijuana in the car’s trunk.
Ptl. Michael Flannery stopped the black 2013 Nissan Altima with Maryland plates for speeding, police said.
The driver was Elvis McPhill Jr., 30, of Rosedale, N.Y. Flannery reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the car and a subsequent search allegedly turned up the marijuana in one large bundle in a travel bag in the Nissan’s trunk, said police.
McPhill was charged with distribution of more than five pounds of marijuana and possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, police said. He was also served motor vehicle summonses for speeding, possession of CDS in a vehicle and violation of touring privileges.
McPhill was lodged in the Salem County Jail in default if $15,000 full cash bail, said police.
