MANTUA TWP. — An off-duty Mantua police officer spotted a theft in progress at Home Depot on Route 45 Thursday afternoon, but the two men involved fled.
The officer identified himself, but one man in a car tried to hit the officer with the car door. The car fled and a second man fled on foot, police said.
Officers formed a perimeter around the area and a police K-9 unit tracked the man. He was subsequently taken into custody on foot on Route 45 near Boody Mill Road, said police.
The second man was later apprehended by the New Jersey State Police on the New Jersey Turnpike in Moorestown, police said.
The off-duty officer was not injured.
No information was available on the names of the suspects or what they were charged with.
