DEPTFORD TWP. — The Center for People in Transition at Rowan College at Gloucester County will host an assortment of empowerment, computer-skill, financial and legal workshops to help facilitate all personal New Year resolutions during the month of January.

“Are You an Entrepreneur?” — Marion Chamberlain will discuss the fundamentals of self-employment. This overview seminar will touch on issues of personality, business knowledge, experience, and the proper time, place, and financing.  Also covered will be the importance of business plans, networking, marketing, public relations, and the availability of grants and loans. “Financial Aspects of Divorce” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will explain a broad range of monetary issues that individuals face when going through divorce. This workshop is designed to help individuals avoid costly mistakes, clarify expectations and begin planning for a “successful” divorce. It meets Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Creating Your Emotional Divorce” — Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld will discuss how feelings of anger, resentment, blame and even sadness often keep one  tethered to one’s ex-spouse. Participants will learn how to take steps to create their emotional divorce in order to become more in control, balanced, and empowered.  It meets Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Intermediate Computers” — Lauri Kuder, Expert Certified Microsoft Access Developer, will teach two separate intermediate computer workshops beginning in January. Each of these 40 hour workshops will focus on developing intermediate skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The cost for each workshop is $40 for displaced homemakers and $100 for non-displaced homemakers. The day computer workshop will be held every Friday, from Jan. 16 through Mar. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The evening workshop will be held every Thursday evening from Jan. 15 through Apr. 16 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. 

“How to Sell or Buy a House during Divorce” — RE/MAX Connection Agent Brian “Ziggy” Ziegenfuss will discuss how to avoid the nine critical mistakes when buying or selling a house. It meets Thursday, Jan. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Why Do Super-Responsible People Find Under-Responsible Partners?” — Licensed Professional Counselor Jennie McQuaide, Ph.D. will focus on ways to break the pattern which often results in super-responsible people feeling used by under-responsible partners. It meets Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“Ace the Interview, Get Ready…Set…Interview!” — Workshop Facilitator Vickie Tully will describe the essential skills and share the critical knowledge necessary for successful interviewing. Participants will take part in guided discussions, mock interviews, role playing and more. Individuals will walk away with the tools they need to “ace” the interview. It meets Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Nuts and Bolts of Elder Law Clinic” — Victoria M. Dalton, Esq., will provide legal information in an array of areas that are most important to senior citizens. Individuals are welcome to bring their lunches and join Dalton as she answers all their questions relating to elder needs. It meets Thursday, Jan. 22 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

“Computer File Management” — Lauri Kuder will teach basic file management skills including saving documents, renaming and rearranging documents, and creating new folders. Participants will be able to organize and update their files with greater ease. The workshop is sponsored by Heart of Gloucester County and People in Transition. It meets Monday, Jan. 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Start Right! Business Plan Basics” — Marion Chamberlain will guide participants during this four session course. All of the essentials about opening a business will be presented in the format of preparing a formal written business plan. Legal, marketing, accounting, and financing will be addressed in depth along with techniques to make the project happen. “Navigating Child Support” — Gloucester County Social Services Child Support Specialist Gina Foster describes the processes to establishing paternity, filing for support services and enforcing existing court orders. The roles of family court, probation and social services are discussed as well as individual rights. It meets Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“Who Am I Now? Dealing with Loss of a Relationship, Role, Identity or Job” — Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld will discuss how any of these losses may cause one to feel ungrounded and often with a sense of sorrow. It meets Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.
