WOOLWICH TWP. — A Yorktown Road man who police said is a member of the Crips gang, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and drug charges this week.
Jonathan Brummell, 28, was stopped riding a bicycle without lights on Center Square Road at 1:42 a.m. Sunday by Ptl. Matthew Boyko, police said.
The officer discovered there was a fugitive warrant from Burlington County for Brummell for a previous aggravated assault charge and placed him under arrest, said police. Brumell allegedly had jumped from his bike and threw a book bag he was carrying to the ground and, once under arrest, said they didn’t belong to him, police said.
Brummell was lodged in the Salem County Jail on the Burlington County Warrant.
Because Boyko said he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the bag, a search warrant was obtained and the book bag was searched on Tuesday, Sept. 30, said police. In the bag, detectives allegedly found an unspecified amount of marijuana, packaging material, scars and approximately $400, which was seized, police said.
Brummell was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to surrender drugs to a law enforcement officer, said police.
Brummell's connection with the Crips is documented in his criminal history, police said.
