GLASSBORO — The Gloucester County Veterans Affairs Office regularly has volunteer Veteran Service Officers unhand to help hook veterans up with service-connected claims, such as widow’s benefits, things that have togo to the federal VA.
Unfortunately, the VSOs are at the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the day’s last appointments are generally made for 3 p.m.
This means, those who need service assistance, but who work or got to school, may have trouble getting to the county office.
Enter the Glassboro Veterans of Foreign Wars post at 275 Wilmer Street.
In mid-October, three certified VCOs — Paul and Bernadette Blackstock, of People for People, and Charles Gallagher, from the post — will open shop in the post’s basement. Bellia’s and Son has outfitted the basement with four office cubicles. The three volunteers will be joined by two others donating their services — a psychologist and a social worker.
“If you can’t get there, you can come here,” Gallagher (right, above) said. Glassboro hours probably will be 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. “If we get more veterans, we will be open longer.”
"People for People can bring a lot of aspects of service," said Bernadette Blackstock (above, left.)
