WOODBURY — Gloucester County residents over 4 years old can get their eyes examined free as part of a program sponsored by the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the state Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Eye screenings are offered twice a month in an effort to prevent or limit the impact of vision loss. Half of all vision loss could be prevented by the early detection of disorders, and appropriate follow-up care. Eye diseases such as glaucoma can cause vision damage and eventual blindness without the patient experiencing any symptoms.
The Division of Disability Services offers the free eye screenings at two locations, including evening hours. Appointments ma be made for the second Wednesday of every month, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Gloucester County Health Department, 204 E. Holly Ave., Washington Township, and on the last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Shady Lane Home, 256 County House Road, Clarksboro.
Call 856-384-6842 to make an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted only for glaucoma screenings, not complete eye exams. Residents under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign for their examination.
