GLASSBORO — The borough police department has launched a new website and a “Text-A-Tip” system.
The website promises to have information, news and announcements of events related to the department, said police.
Visitors to the website can download some forms and applications, learn about the different special units in the department and see news about events and open cases, police said.
There will be safety tips and crime prevention programs to help residents keep the community safe and there will be an interactive crime map so residents can track what is happening in their neighborhoods, said police.
By using the “Text-A-Tip” system, members of the community can text information about criminal activity directly using their cellular phones. The program promises 100-percent anonymity. There will be apps for Android and iOS soon, police said.
Tips may also be sent directly from the crime map, and, of course, via the department’s Facebook page.
The new website is www.glassboropd.org.
To text a tip from your cellphone, text the keyword GLASSPD to tip411 (that’s 847411) then your message. (Tips are not monitored at all times and should not be used as a substitute for calling 9-1-1 or 856-881-1500.
