GLASSBORO — Two men were charged in connection with a burglary and attempted robbery at a West High Street apartment at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A 19-year-old victim told police two men had forced their way into the apartment and tried to get money from her and her boyfriend in an intimidating manner, said police.
The woman also told police her boyfriend was pushed by the intruders as he attempted to get them to leave the apartment, police said.
The victim was able to provide police with good descriptions of the two men.
Ptl. Rick Moan recalled seeing two men matching the descriptions leaving the apartment building moments before the report was made, said police. Moan had seen the two men cross the road and enter a residence on Norh Main Street.
Police were able to locate one of the suspects matching the description in that residence, police said. The man was identified as Darnell A. Downes, 29, of Pennsauken, said police.
Further investigation led to the identification of the second suspect, Justin K. Downes, 28, of Oakwood Avenue, who allegedly had fled through a window of the Main Street residence just before officers arrived, police said.
Darnell Downes was charged with burglary of an occupied residence, attempted robbery and terroristic threats, and bail was set at $7,500, said police. He was lodged in the Salem County Jail in default.
Justin Downes was charged with burglary of an occupied residence, attempted robbery, terroristic threats, obstruction of the administration of justice and hindering his own apprehension. His bail was set at $25,000, said police.
