WOODBURY — The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that the Commission for Women has selected 14 women to be honored this year at the 2014 Women of Achievement Event.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Auletto’s in Deptford.
The honorees were nominated and selected by the Commission for Women and the Gloucester County Branch of the American Association of University Women.

This year’s honorees are Tricia Sloan, Carol Maggioncalda, Joyce Feder, Gloria Goode, Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera, Brigette Satchell, Patricia Mosto, Lisa Morina, Isabelita Abele, Christine Taylor and Kauser Jahan.
Tricia Sloan – Tricia Sloan is the Artistic Director for the Tricia Sloan Dance Center, a family owned and operated small business that has been in Wenonah for 40 years. Her passion for performing arts is evident to the more than 500 Gloucester County children and young adults she has taught. Not just a teacher, Tricia has instilled invaluable life lessons of healthy living, discipline and most importantly, self-confidence.
Carol Maggioncalda – Carol is the consummate volunteer. Known as the resident “go-to” person, she seems to have an inherent ability to recognize a need and develops a strategic program to address that need. Whether it be collecting socks for Service Members in Afghanistan or quilting new pillow cases for Conquer Cancer, Carol demonstrates her love of helping others in her everyday life.
Joyce Feder – Joyce has dedicated herself to the student body of Gloucester County for 30 years. Most recently Joyce helped launch The Adult Center for Transition at Rowan College at Gloucester County. She believes that “Gloucester County does it better” in educating and growing opportunities for all people in Gloucester County and encourages people to “show interest in your fellow man”.
Gloria S. Goode – Gloria has enjoyed a career in social work for over 30 years and dedicated herself to the student body at Woodbury High School for many of those years. During her time at WHS she founded LADIES, (Learning About Dignity, Integrity, Excellence and Self-Respect), a group made up of Junior and Senior High School women where she guided young women to change their mindset of “I could never,” to “I can do it”. Her daughter calls her a “Change Agent,” a title Gloria embraces.
Gabriela M. Mosquera - Gabriela proudly serves as a New Jersey Assemblywoman of the 4th Legislative District that represents 220,000 residents in Camden and Gloucester Counties and is the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Women and Children. During her time in the legislature she has crafted legislation aimed at improving services and support for victims and survivors of domestic violence; an issue close to her heart, as she and her mother are both survivors of domestic abuse. Her career in the public sector has enabled her to mentor young women and provide career advice.
Brigette Satchell – Brigette has built her career in education, and is dedicated to helping students and professionals achieve success. Presently she serves as the Dean of Continuing Education at Rowan College at Gloucester County. Brigette manages budgets in excess of $4.5 Million annually where she oversees the creation and development of continuing education programs and services. Her role at the College reaches beyond the college campus in her work with companies throughout Gloucester County that she assists in crafting training programs to prepare our workforce for industry specific jobs.
Dr. Patricia Mosto – Presently Pat serves as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Sciences at Rider University and previously was the Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Rowan University. In the college community she became an active member of the Rowan Professional Women’s Network. She served her community as well, leading the Girl Scouts for 12 years and mentoring young women and girls. She believes that “women can transform their lives and communities, serving as a catalyst for sustainable change.”
Lisa Morina – Prior to joining Kennedy Health Systems as Vice President of Government and External Relations, Lisa directed the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development for nearly 10 years. During that time, she lead projects that represented $600 million in new investments and over 6,700 new or retained job opportunities for working families in Gloucester County. She has dedicated her time and energy to United Way of Gloucester County for nearly a decade and presently serves as Chairman of the Southern NJ Technology Park @ Rowan University, where she focuses on growing STEM education opportunities in Gloucester County and the region. “When someone tells you ‘no’, say ‘watch me!’”
Isabelita Abele – Isabelita is the owner of US Lumber, the leading lumber supplier throughout New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. She has been recognized by numerous organizations and non-profit agencies for her rise through the industry and also for her passionate community involvement. Isabelita is dedicated to improving the lives and success of women, often mentoring professional women in her community and leveraging political appointments to address the unique needs of women and minorities. Isabelita believes women should “take advantage of the ability to join forces, create partnerships, seek mentors and follow good advice.”
Christine Taylor - Chris is presently offering her expertise in the medical field as a Clinical Nursing Adjunct at Drexel University. Chris is a breast cancer survivor and founded a Breast Cancer Support Group in 1997 and has spoken to over 5,000 people. She is an active member of the Woman’s Club of West Deptford; a Health Mentor for Jefferson Hospital where she teaches professionals about the challenges that disabled women face; Hosts for Hospitals an organization that houses families of patients undergoing surgery or treatment; and is also a “Flock Leader” at her church where she conducts outreach and offers support to homeless women – housing them for a week 4 times a year at the church.
Dr. Kauser Jahan – Dr. Jahan is a full professor at Rowan University in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She has been with Rowan University for nearly 20 years, where she has been an active member of the entire Rowan community. This year she will serve as a Fulbright US Scholar and in 2013 received the Women in Engineering Initiative Award and in 2010 was selected to receive the Sharon Keiller Award for Women in Engineering Education. She is deeply committed to STEM education; her contributions have led to national recognition. Kauser also provides mentoring opportunities and workshops for Bangladeshi females in the area through her involvement with Bangladesh Association of the Delaware Valley. She fiercely believes that developing mentoring relationships is the single most important tool for the advancement of women.
