WEST DEPTFORD TWP.

— On Jan. 1,, Candice R. Souza, 25, of West Deptford, was arrested on Crown Point Road for outstanding warrants and additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a hypodermic needle.  She was issued summonses and released.  

— On Jan. 3, Brandi A. Monahon , 22, of West Deptford was arrested on North Broad Street for outstanding warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was issued summonses and released.

PITMAN —  On Dec. 20 at 11:59 p.m., Ptl. Nick Barbetta conducted a motor vehicle stop on Glenmere Avenue which led to a drug arrests.  He arrested Nicholas Keppler, 19, of Pitman, and Kevin Keppler, 18, of Sewell, and charged them with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a school zone.
 
On Dec. 29 at 10:04 p.m., Barbetta conducted a motor vehicle stop on Woodbury Road which led to a drug arrest. He charged a 17 year old Turnersville resident with possession of marijuana.
 
On Jan. 13, Ptl. Ken Decker responded to the unit block of North Fernwood Avenue for a medical emergency.  While on-scene, Decker observed a glass pipe with marijuana residue in plain view. He charged Mary C. Ryan, 29, of Pitman, with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

WOODBURY — Residents of Gloucester County can still get free flu shots by way of the county Department of Health, Senior and Disability Services.

Flu clinics are offered on Thursday afternoons through March 31, 2015, between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Gloucester County Department of Health, 204 East Holly Ave. in Washington Township.

WOODBURY — During the week of Jan. 12, a Gloucester County grand jury indicted the following people:

— William Newmiller, 49, of Havertown, Pa., for bad checks and theft in Monroe Township on May 22.

— Christopher J. Petsch, 36, of Franklinville, for shoplifting in Washington Township on Sept. 11.

— Douglas Scott, 42, of Voorhees, doe shoplifting in Deptford on Sept. 20.

— Mark Martin, 26, of Woodbury, for distribution of CDS, possession of CDS in a school zone, resisting arrest. possession of a weapon while committing a CDS crime, certain persons not to have a weapon and two counts of CDS possession in Woodbury on May 21.

MONROE TWP. — A Monroe Township police officer who was seriously injured  when he was hit by a drunken driver in June was presented with a Valor Award Monday night by the Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund.

It was just after 9:30 p.m. on June 21 when Ptl. Anthony Vezza made a motor vehicle stop, pulling over a vehicle on Route 322 for having an expired registration.

Vezza parked his patrol car on the shoulder, with the front partially in the travel lane. He exited his car and approached the unregistered vehicle. As Vezza was beside his car’s front driver’s side wheel, another vehicle traveling west on Route 322 hit the driver’s side rear fender of the patrol car, according to police reports.

There are a lot of conventions out there all across the globe, each one different from the other, having their own unique style. All of them are great ways for fans of all kinds and ages to get together and show their support in their own way; however, the closest convention here in Gloucester County, New Jersey, is Kotori Con, held at Rowan College at Gloucester County.

This family-friendly anime con had all the enjoyment for all anime lovers and fans on January 9th and the 10th with lots food, games, shops, and great entertainment for all ages. In fact, the best part about the con, in many people’s opinion, would have to be meeting their favorite celebrity in person at the convention, such as Uncle Yo, Greg Cipes, Sonny Strait, Chuck Huber, Michele Knots, Lisle Wilkerson, and many more.

As I write this, I am preparing to go to a friend’s funeral. A young man, only 39 years old, a husband, a father.

I worked with this guy back at the turn of the century. He was a good, hard-working reporter. Sure, copy editors sometimes cringed when he turned in a story, because he was not the world’s best speller. That often happens with reporters.

This guy seemed to know someone everywhere. If we had a breaking story, he’d know a guy who worked in the emergency room, or a woman who was a secretary for the school district, or someone who lived down the street from where a murder was committed. He had a great nose for news and followed it, doggedly.

Yet, he sometimes was timid. After 9/11, he used to lock his computer keyboard away overnight so no one could sprinkle anthrax on it.

GREENWICH TWP. — Officers on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle driven by a woman, with a male passenger, in the Motel 6 parking lot Tuesday.

Using an on-board computer, officers learned the registered owner of the car was suspended, and had several outstanding warrants. police said.

During the subsequent vehicle stop, the woman allegedly gave officers a bogus name and date of birth, said police.

Further investigation revealed the woman was Latasha M. Williams, 23, of Paulsboro, police said.

She was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension, four fugitive warrants and a county fugitive warrant, said police.

She was processed and held in default of an unspecified amount of bail.

FRANKLIN TWP.  — An inmate who had escaped from a Bridgeton halfway house was arrested Monday afternoon in Franklin Township.

Police received an anonymous tip at about 2:57 p.m. that Timothy R. Rutecki, 33, an inmate of Southwoods State Prison who had been living at the Kintock Bridgeton Halfway House, had been seen in a vehicle in the township, police said.

A short time later, Ptl. Nicholas Pasculli stopped that vehicle and arrested Rutecki, who was a passenger, said police.

Rutecki was turned over to the state Department of Corrections, police said.
