WEST DEPTFORD TWP. — The West Deptford Mayor’s Food and Holiday Toy Drive, a partner with Operation Blessing conducted by the West Deptford High School National Honors Society, has begun.
“Our schools are much more in touch with families’ needs than local municipal government could ever be”, says Mayor Ray Chintall, “This partnership is the essence of what the holiday spirit means, pulling together for the cause of helping our neighbors.”

— On Nov. 13, police investigated a theft-by-deception complaint at the Wawa Food Market on Center Square Road. A daily customer allegedly had obtained an outdated “paid” stamp and was using it several times to place food orders. The customer fled when confronted by a store manager. Complaints are pending.
— A 24-year-old Salem man was charged with two counts of theft and simple assault after an early morning disturbance at the Wawa store on Nov. 14. He was served with a complaint summons and released.

Pitman man pleads guilty to sexual assault of boy under 13

WOODBURY — Shawne A Grant, 43, pleaded guilty Nov. 20 to sexual assault and absconding from parole in connection with a 2013 incident involved in boy under 13 in Pitman.
Grant, of Pitman, acknowledged in court he had improperly touched the victim on July 28, 2013, authorities said.
As part of a plea agreement, Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Margaret Cipparrone will recommend Grant be sentenced to six years in state prison for the assault charge and for a concurrent four-year sentence for the parole violation, said authorities. The six-year sentence will require that Grant serve 85-percent of the time before be becomes eligible for parole.

Two men arrested after fleeing from off-duty officer in Mantua Township

MANTUA TWP. — An off-duty Mantua police officer spotted a theft in progress at Home Depot on Route 45 Thursday afternoon, but the two men involved fled.
The officer identified himself, but one man in a car tried to hit the officer with the car door. The car fled and a second man fled on foot, police said.
Officers formed a perimeter around the area and a police K-9 unit tracked the man. He was subsequently taken into custody on foot on Route 45 near Boody Mill Road, said police.

WEST DEPTFORD TWP. — The West Deptford Township police department is accepting applications/resumes for the purpose of establishing a list of candidates for full-time police officer.
All PTC and non-PTC trained applicants may apply. In addition to PTC requirements (found at http://www.state.nj.us/lps/dcj/njptc/home.htm), applicants must possess at least 60 college credits or be waived by the Chief of Police due to prior police or military experience.
Applicants may be subject to a written test, oral interview, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, as well as a background investigation.
Paulsboro man charged with distribution of cocaine, heroin and pills

PAULSBORO — A 27-year-old Paulsboro man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday, as a several-month-long investigation into narcotics distribution was concluded.
At 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the unit block of West Washington Street, police said.
Barry Vessels was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of prescription pills, possession of prescription pills with the intent to distribute, possession of controlled dangerous substances with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of public housing, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering to commit a CDS offense, maintaining a nuisance and resisting arrest, said police.
