GLASSBORO — Police here recognized some valuable participants in the Glassboro K-9 Unit Tuesday night.
Sgt. Daniel Eliason, who heads the unit, and Sgt. Ryan Knight, introduced the borough council to Chuck Williams and his dog, Jesse, and Steve Cavallaro and his dog, Obo. Both teams have undergone training at the Philadelphia Police K-9 Academy and most recently finished narcotics detection training, Eliason said.

I’m not sure when I began disliking the water. As a kid, I played in front of open fire hydrants, or splashed in the gushing torrents that unleashed to run down our street of row homes along the gutter. Little kids used to come out in their underpants to splash in that water and laugh and enjoy the sudden pleasure.
Neighborhood kids would “play in the water” from a hose even more often. No one, at first, had swimming pools, so folks would squirt garden hoses at the children. (I should mention that while the hose was a benign tool in that sense, it was also used for nefarious purposes. You don’t live jammed into row houses without some infighting occurring now and then. If Mrs. Stiehl was squirting the hose and cleaning off the sidewalk and street in front of her house and water just happened to reach the other side of the street where Mrs. Kolavage lived — these women despised each other mostly — a grand water fight would begin, accompanied by two grown, soaking-wet women skittering around in the street, adult screeching and bellowing. It was best to stay clear of something like this.)

PAULSBORO — Two people have been charged in connection with the May 18, 2014 robbery of brother and sister twins in Paulsboro.
Anthony D. Young Jr., 33, of Gibbstown, and Christine E. Demore, 30, of Paulsboro, allegedly conspired with another man to rob the twins, authorities said.
The twins, Robert W. Springer and Jessica N. Springer, 26, of Washington Township, have been charged in connection with the death of the man Young and Demore allegedly conspired with, said authorities.
That man, Eddie Lee Warthen 4th, 41, of Gibbstown, was struck twice by a motor vehicle on May 18 on East Madison Street and was pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital, Camden, authorities said.

— On April 17, a Harvest Road resident said someone entered his backyard and stole scrap material valued at $400.
— Scrap metal valued at $800 was reported stolen April 17 from a construction site in the 600 block of Heron Drive.
— A Heidi Lane resident told police someone entered her unlocked 2010 Honda overnight April 17 and rifled through its contents. Nothing was stolen.

CLAYTON — After a three-week investigation, Clayton police, assisted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Strike Force, arrested two men on drug charges.
Officers executed a search warrant on a residence in the unit block of Dubois Avenue Friday evening, police said.
Paul Gordon, 42, and Joshua Wojciechowski, 36, both of the Dubois Avenue residence, were charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, said police.
Wojciechowski was additionally charged with possession of CDS, namely an unknown prescription pill, police said.
Both men were served with complaint summonses and released.
The investigation was led by Clayton Detective Lauren Franklin.

EAST GREENWICH TWP. — Two people have died as the result of a crash involving as many as six vehicles on Interstate 295 near Exit 17, according to Channel 6 Action News.
The crash happened at about 8:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes, causing New Jersey State Police to close the highway.

WEST DEPTFORD TWP. — Police are looking for a woman who robbed an elderly resident April 22 and was thwarted in an attempt to rob another Friday morning.
In each case, the woman claims to be checking on elderly people in the area.
On April 22, at 1:40 p.m., the woman — a black female between 50 and 60, with black bushy/curly hair, medium skin and wearing glasses — knocked on a man’s door in the 300 block of Jessup Road and asked to come inside because she was checking on elderly folks, police said.
The victim believed her and allowed her in. After a few minutes, the woman asked to use a bathroom. The victim escorted her to the basement and showed her the rest room, said police.
