Gloucester County drive-thru flu shots for Oct. 4 postponed

UPDATE:

Due to the forecast of inclement weather for Saturday, the Oct. 4 drive-thru flu shot clinic scheduled for the Regal Theater, 151 American Boulevard, Turnersville from 8 to 10 a.m. had been postponed until Saturday, Oct. 18 — same place, same time.

The Gloucester County Department of Health has scheduled free flu shots for 2014.

There will be 36 clinics scheduled. Flu shots are meant for rresidents 6 months or older and are especially recommended for the youngest and oldest residents, and those who have medical conditions that would make having the flu more dangerous.

Man convicted of choking Woodbury woman and endangering her 1-year-old

WOODBURY — A Newtonville man was found guilty Thursday of choking his girlfriend in her Woodbury apartment and firing gunshots into the ceiling on Feb. 17, 2013.

Donald D. Segar, 22, also was convicted of possession of a  weapon by a convicted felon — which carries a mandatory five-year prison sentence, authorities said.

Jennifer Purcell returns home, keeps mum about where she's been

NATIONAL PARK — Jennifer Purcell, who has been listed as a missing person since Sunday, returned home Wednesday but won’t talk about where she’s been.

Purcell, 35, was last seen at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Her mother reported her missing, saying Purcell might be suicidal, according to police.

The woman is fine, police said, but she won’t say anything about her disappearance. Police said this is not the first time she has gone missing.

WOOLWICH TWP. — A  Yorktown Road man who police said is a member of the Crips gang, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and drug charges this week.

Jonathan Brummell, 28, was stopped riding a bicycle without lights on Center Square Road at 1:42 a.m. Sunday by Ptl. Matthew Boyko, police said.

Two men charged with sexual assault of 15-year-old girl in Pitman

PITMAN — Two men have been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a party in Pitman Saturday.

The assault allegedly happened during a party Saturday night, hosted by a 17-year-old girl without parental supervision or approval, police said. Partygoers allegedly used drugs and alcohol illegally, said police. The victim allegedly was inebriated when she was assaulted by the men in a bedroom in the house, police said.

In two lectures, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, Jennifer Janofsky, Ph.D., will talk about the time before and during the battle, including tales of the regiments and soldiers in the field.

GREENWICH TWP. — Officers responded to reports of a fight in progress at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Gibbstown Shopping Center.

Callers had reported there were several people involved and that the melee was broken up by ShopRite security officers and that the fighters had fled in their vehicles, police said.

WOODBURY – Consumer complaints in Gloucester County are down this year, but financial reocveries are up over five years ago.

In 2013, the Gloucester County Office of Consumer Affairs handled nearly 200 cases, with two investigators, and recovered $252,420 in actual monies and money value to residents, in Gloucester County and neighboring counties, authorities said.
