WASHINGTON TWP. — A Chapel Heights Road resident has been charged narcotics offenses, according to police.

Michael J. Hitchner, 19, was arrested after police executed a search warrant on his residence, said police. The search yielded unspecified narcotics and Hitchner was charged with possession of CDS.

The case has been turned over to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.

MONROE TWP. — Joseph I. Zambuto, 34, of Williamstown, has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his 70-year-old father during an argument in the suspect’s Meade Court home early Monday afternoon.

Zambuto was arrested at his home shortly after the death of his father, also named Joseph.  The elder Zambuto lived with his wife in a home next door to his son. The younger Zambuto owns both homes.

The suspect is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.  According to the complaint signed against him, the weapon was a “Rambo 3” knife.

Zambuto, a stock trader, is being held in default of $1 million bail. He lived with a girlfriend and their 1-year-old child.

An autopsy conducted by the Gloucester County Medical examiner’s office today determined the cause of death was a knife wound to the chest and the manner of death was homicide.

Glassboro man held up at gunpoint

GLASSBORO — At about 2:54 p.m. Sunday, Glassboro police officers were flagged down behind police headquarters on Oakwood Avenue by a male who said he;d been robbed at gunpoint.

According to the victim, he’d been walking down the street when he was approached by three males, one of whom displayed a handgun and demanded money, police said.

After taking the victim’s cash, the trio fled in the direction of Owens Field, said police.

The man with the gun was described as a black male, 17 to29 years old, about 6’ tall, thin, with braids in his hear and wearing black pants and a white shirt, police said.

Logan Township Rite Aid held up by man wielding knife and hammer

LOGAN TWP. — A man armed with a knife and a hammer held up the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 335 Village Center Drive Friday, May 22.

Police were told at about 9:30 a.m. that the man had fled in a car he stole from a Rite Aid employee.

The man entered the store wearing a red coverall, yellow traffic vest and a white hard hat, police said.

He also wore yellow safety glasses and a white mask, said police.

He approached the pharmacy, jumped over the counter and demanded all the Oxycodone, police said. He managed to get a large quantity of the drug.

He took keys to a 2011 Chrysler 200 owned by a worker, then ran from the store and fled in the car, said police.

Logan and Woolwich police conducted a wide search of the area. The stolen car was located several hours later in a nearby parking lot.

Seems like Memorial Day came early this year.

We all know what Memorial Day means it’s the unofficial start of the summer season. People start hitting the shore as often as possible and the roads between here and there become traffically challenged until fall arrives. And we can wear white pants and straw hats.

Well, you can wear white pants if you want. I’m not sure I ever owned a pair of white pants. (The closest I got was back in the 1970s, when folks bought packages of something that was made to give new blue jeans that faded look. If you weren’t careful your indigo jeans would wind up so light blue they looked almost white. Still, that was an accident, I
swear.)

16-year-old Franklin Township runaway found in Clayton

FRANKLIN TWP. — A missing juvenile who had left a suicide note was found Friday night.

Police were notified that the 16-year-old boy had run away from his home in the 500 block of Royal Avenue at 9:07 p.m.

He had left a suicide note in his bedroom and reportedly had attempted suicide in the past, police said.

Officers used a New Jersey State Police helicopter in the search for the teenager, but that search was unsuccessful.

The juvenile was then located in Clayton. He was transported to Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township.

UPDATE  — RICHARD ROTELLI HAS BEEN FOUND, SAFE, IN GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP.

WASHINGTON TWP. — Police are trying to locate a 75-year-old man who was last seen at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

They’re looking for Richard Rotelli, 75, of the Washington Way Apartments, police said.

He is 5’8” tall, weighs 150 pounds and has gray hair and blue eyes, said police.

He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a brown leather jacket, blue jeans and brown work boots.

Anyone with information about Rotelli is asked to contact police at 856-267-1212.
