WEST DEPTFORD TWP. — The West Deptford Township Committee for the Disabled will celebrate its second Annual Information Forum for all ages on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

There will be a mix of vendors and local agencies and special service coordinators will be returning to highlight wellness services for residents of Gloucester County and surrounding areas.

PITMAN —Police Chief Robert Zimmerman has issued a warning about some new drugs found in Pitman, known as "heroin pills."

The pills seem to be available in Gloucester and Camden counties, he said.

FRANKLIN TWP.  — The water is coming through the roof at Delsea Regional High School by the bucketful — forcing students to walk in a labyrinthine obstacle course, just days before a third referendum which includes roof repair.

“The middle and high schools have leaks,” said Dr. Piera Gravenor, the superintendent of the district, “but today the major problem is the high school lobby. I’ve never seen it as bad as it is right now.”

 Some months ago, I went in to my primary doc’s office and was told they’d switched to a new computer system. Oh, goodie. Then they handed me a clipboard and told me to fill out all the blanks — including my name and address.

 

This Saturday, Sept. 27, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This federal Drug  Enforcement Administration event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provides a venue for people who want to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

WEST DEPTFORD TWP. — William Schickel is believed to have killed himself Monday with a handgun stolen in a  Sept. 17 burglary.

Schickel, 24, of the White Swan trailer park on Mantua Grove Road, was being sought by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force when he took his own life, police said.

Paul and Bernadette BlackstockHARRISON TWP. — You know that big Veterans’ Picnic that’s coming up this Saturday? Well, it wasn’t always at the 4-H Fairground.

The picnic was started by a D-Day veteran as a way of getting other veterans together. It was in Philly, then it moved to New Jersey, to a horse farm and, finally, to its current site in Mullica Hill.

WEST DEPTFORD TWP.  —More than 11 hours after U.S. Marshals trying to serve a warrant on 24-year-old William Schickel heard what sounded like a gunshot, police discovered his body inside a townhouse on Buckingham Drive.

It was 12:44 a.m. Tuesday when SWAT and other police entered the townhouse in the 1000 block of Buckingham and discovered the body of the White Swan trailer park resident, police said. It appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot, said police.
